The
XK 140 replaced the XK 120 in the Jaguar catalogue in 1955 and
it remained there till 1957, when the XK 150 was created. As it
was for the first Jaguars (the 100s), the number should stand
for the maximum speed in mph. Three versions of the XK 140 were
produced: Roadster (the open sports version) with 3,347 cars;
Drop Head Coupé (an open, but over-refined version, with
a large windscreen, with posts and windows) with 2,740 cars, and
Fixed Head Coupé (closed) with 2,797 cars built. The most
evident differences between this model and the previous one concerned
the front bonnet, with a larger chromium-plated radiator grill
(in the XK 150 it would be even larger), the jaguar's head and
the writing "Le Mans Winner", to celebrate the 1955
victory.
This model was offered in a standard version with a 190bhp engine,
